MIDDLE MANAGEMENT IN TOURISM
NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN TRAVEL AND TOURISM
AT ETB IN
PALMA

Presentation

The Middle Management in Tourism programme (MIT) is the response that the Escuela de Turismo de Baleares (ETB), which has specialized in tourism training since 1964, in collaboration with the tourist sector provide to the new demands risen in from the tourism labour market. Today, aside from the traditional MIT profiles, we may add those of staff able to manage product and service online marketing, feel confident in international environments, respond to the new needs posed by new products and types of tourist or manage the presence of organisations on the Internet.

Teaching Method

The Middle Management in Tourism + National Diploma programme aims to guaranteeing that prospective professionals are able to join the labour market with guarantees. To this end, the programme is divided into two cycles. The first one (Initial Diploma in Middle Management) provides the grounds of the professional profile that the industry seeks in a Middle Manager. Those learners who complete their third year will obtain the double diploma in Middle Management in Tourism programme + National Diploma, issued by ETB and Edexcel respectively.

The teaching method is intended to guarantee that the learner acquires not only knowledge but also skills. This is achieved through the writing of projects that involve knowledge discovery, decision making and planning at work in an environment is meant to reproduce the actual conditions at work. Learners are thus assessed on their perseverance at work, as well as their capacity to apply knowledge and find solutions to problems and cases posed.

Training placements are compulsory in the programme to a total of 160 hours per year. In the third year, this placement must take place in a foreign country. The objective is twofold: First, develop in the learners the habit of working in a different social and cultural environment, and second, put their foreign language proficiency to the test.

Finally, foreign languages play a key role in the tourism sector. The MIT programme includes three compulsory languages: English and German, as the languages spoken in our main markets, and Russian, on the grounds of the noticeable development of this market and the associated demand of professionals with knowledge in this language.

Admission requirements

Candidates for admission must be in possession of one of the following:

  • Compulsory Secondary  Education (ESO, EGB)
  • Foreign certificates at the same level

Among these we may list, cultural manager, channel manager, community manager, innovation manager in tourism, branding manager, marketing agent, public relations officer, MICE, or heritage manager.
